"Starting strong is my mentality" says Jenson Brooksby on furious week in Washington

Jenson Brooksby is turning head at the Citi Open in Washington as he demolished seasoned pro John Millman in the quarterfinals.

The young American only needed 67 minutes to send off Millman who is known as a fighting player who rarely gets blown off the court. Brooksby has played sensational tennis this year on American soil and made important gains on the rankings which will allow him to make his top 100 debut on Monday.

The hallmark of his play in Washington have been fast starts to matches as he takes early leads and never lets go of them. He said:

“Starting strong is my mentality. It means the preparation up to it [the match] is good. What I need to work on the most is when it gets later on in matches. It was harder today [with the heat], but I am in good shape.”

Brooksby as he noted himself was well prepared for this match. He knew exactly what kind of players Millman was and what he should expect. Asked about his prep for the match he said:

”He is going to make you work hard but I know I am physical and I started really strongly in the first set. I sort of lost focus at times in the second set but that is part of it. I was still able to stay positive throughout."

His next opponent will be fellow young tennis sensation Jannik Sinner who has a lot more experience than Brooksby despite being younger. The American did not offer any comment on that match but it will start at 22:00 CET and we will have a recap for you.
