Serbia’s Novak Djokovic is now certain to keep his top spot in the ATP Ranking at least till the US Open 2024.
The 36-year-old finished 2023 strongly after winning the ATP Finals in Turin with a win over young Jannik Sinner in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-3. With that win, Djokovic is now set to keep the top spot in the rankings at least till the first Grand Slam of the year.
The Belgrade-born has 11,245 live ranking points. On the other hand, Alcaraz, who is placed in the second spot, has 8,855 live ranking points.
Djokovic is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles. The current world number one ended up winning three major titles out of the four in 2023.
His only defeat in a Grand Slam match this year was in the final at Wimbledon to Alcaraz who came out on top in a five-set thrilling contest with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
Other than that, Djokovic won the Australian Open by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas, the French Open by beating Casper Ruud and the US Open by getting the better of Daniil Medvedev.
