Stefanos Tsitsipas kicked off his ABN AMRO WTT Rotterdam campaign on Tuesday with a hard-fought victory over Egor Gerasimov.
It was a hard test for Stefanos Tsitsipas in the ABN AMRO WTT opener but the Greek emerged victorious on the other side. An effort that lasted close to two hours saw the Greek overcome Egor Gerasimov 7-6(4) 6-4. A bit of a slow start for Tsitsipas saw Gerasimov have breaks points but the Belarussian could not convert. Stefanos had break points in the next game but the Greek converted them to take a 3-2 lead. Gerasimov played a very good game to make it 3-3. After that not much happened so we ended up in a tiebreak where Tsitsipas demonstrated his quality and won it 7-4.
The 2nd set saw Stefanos continue to play well which allowed him to jump out to a 3-1 lead but similar to the first set he could not hold it. Gerasimov broke Stefanos one game after he surrendered his own serve just like in the first set. Somewhat of a careless attitude by Stefanos allowed the Belarussian to come back into the match and he started playing better. It took Stefanos quite a while before he had a chance to end it but ultimately at 6-5 he got his first match point which converted.
Tougher than he would have liked to but Stefanos Tsitsipas in trhoug to R2 of the ABN AMRO Rotterdam.
