Stefanos Tsitsipas booked his place in the semi final of the Los Cabos Open after being American Aleksander Kovacevic in straight sets. In his post-match interview, he was asked how good his knowledge of Spanish is. "I speak a little," the Greek replied.
Tsitsipas has been in a relationship with Paula Badosa since June 2023 and have both travelled to events to cheer each other on. Badosa lives in Barcelona, where Catalan is widely spoken by the community. "Paula speaks only Catalan around me so it’s been difficult. It’s her native language," Tsitsipas added.
"From time to time you know, certain members of (my) team (converse in Spanish), otherwise it’s mostly Catalan. Guys… I'm trying. I'll try harder."
Set for showdown with Casper Ruud
Defending champion Tsitsipas will take on Casper Ruud in the last four. The head to head record between the two stands at 1-1, with their last meeting coming at the Canadian Open in August 2021. "He (Ruud) is a competitor, he pushes me to the limit, I need to be well prepared and take it like every match and see if there is an opportunity to play my game.”
