Stefanos Tsitsipas will play for the Monte Carlo title on Sunday against Andrey Rublev, seeking the first Masters 1000 title after losing the previous two finals.
The 22-year-old Greek has played well this week in the Principality for his best Monte Carlo result, competing against Daniel Evans in the semis and achieving a rare feat among the active players. Namely, Stefanos became the fifth active player with the semi-final at Roland Garros and all three Masters 1000 events, following Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka!
Two years ago, Stefanos beat Rafael Nadal in the semis to reach the Madrid Open final, losing it to Novak Djokovic but celebrating his first notable result on the slowest surface alongside the Estoril title. A week later, the youngster reached the last four in Rome after receiving a withdrawal from Roger Federer, scoring two great wins in the early rounds and ending his journey in the semis against Rafael Nadal.
In October last year, Tsitsipas showed his skills at Roland Garros to embrace the semis, pushing Novak Djokovic to the limits before losing in five sets.
In Monte Carlo, Stefanos ousted Daniel Evans 6-2, 6-1 in 69 minutes for his third Masters 1000 final, controlling the scoreboard from start to finish and overpowering the Briton in every segment to remain on the title course.
