Stefanos Tsitsipas has received a last minute wildcard to play at ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam one day after Jannik Sinner withdrew from the tournament citing the turnaround time between the Australian Open and the ATP 500 tournament.

Taking place between 1-9 February 2025, the field is now headlined by Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur. But it is one with personal history for Tsitsipas.

He received a wildcard in Rotterdam in 2017. At the time he was World No.205 and has since ascended. By his third participation, he was World No.12. Success came in 2021 when he reached the semi-final in which he lost to Andrey Rublev.

A year later, he reached the final in which Felix Auger-Aliassime ironically broke his title duck against him but it saw Tsitsipas vindicate the initial decision by the board to include him. With an ATP 500, an A+ Wildcard is possible in which a player from the top 30 if an opportunity arises can be added last minute. Every ATP 500 tournament has this opportunity.

‘We are happy to add this crowd favourite to the player field. Stefanos Tsitsipas is right at home. At eighteen, he made his debut here at the highest level and now he will be in action for the seventh time in Rotterdam. Having previously reached the semi-finals and finals, this time he might just win the title," said Richard Krajicek, Tournament Director of ABN AMRO Open.

‘Stefanos Tsitsipas was of course high on our list of players we still wanted to be able to bring to Rotterdam. We are very happy with the fact that we can now make use of this arrangement.’
