Strange coincidence as Sebastian Korda could technically win only ATP 1000 title won by his father Petr Korda at Shanghai Masters

American tennis player Sebastian Korda is two wins away from claiming the Shanghai Masters title, which also happens to be the only ATP 1000 event won by his father, retired tennis player Petr Korda.
The 23-year old over compatriot Ben Shelton in an intense quarterfinal clash on Thursday, prevailing with a 6-7(10) 6-2 7-6(6) victory. The thrilling encounter saw Shelton hit an astonishing 17 aces, but they were not enough to see the World No.20 through to the next round.

Korda could equal his dad with a particular milestone

The younger Korda has had his ups and downs on the ATP tour, battling with injury for some of the 2023 season. Although he is yet to reach the career-high ranking of World No.2 attainted by his father, Sebastian could be on equal footing when it comes to winning a Masters title, should he prevail in Shanghai.
Petr Korda won his only Masters title at the 1997 Stuttgart Masters. which, from 2002 to 2008 became known as the Madrid Masters. The event underwent another name-change, when it was relocated to Shanghai in 2009 and thus is now known as the Shanghai Masters.
Korda will face Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinals, with the winner moving on to battle for the prestigious Shanghai title on Sunday.
