Jannik Sinner is through to the third round of the 2024 Miami Open a day later than planned with the World Number Three finding his way past his compatriot Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 6-4.
Next up will be Tallon Griekspoor in a fairly wide open section after the demise of both Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe. This means the victor of that clash will face Martin Damm. Jr or Christopher O'Connell in the fourth road for a spot in the Quarter-Finals so Sinner will be heavily favoured.
While his streak this season might be over at 17 wins in a row and 36-3 since the US Open, Sinner continued to motor after carrying on from yesterday. On return, he was 3-2 up on his compatriot and broke serve at the second attempt to make it 4-2. He did not face a single break point during the tie such was his dominance on his serve. Closing the win out in just over an hour and 15 minutes, the second set saw a matter of one break.
Sinner took a comfortable break at 3-2 up and with Vavassori not given a single chance to hit back, it was fairly academic as this break proved vital as Sinner sealed it on the third match point. After losing to Carlos Alcaraz in a disheartening Indian Wells loss, Sinner has not taken the foot off the gas and given his good quarter will head into the rest of this week all guns blazing. This will have to be the case as due to delays he will be playing most days for the remainder if he is still involved.
Other wins came for Denis Shapovalov as Stefanos Tsitsipas continues to struggle, Andy Murray continues to thrive as he took down a tricky test in Tomas Martin Etcheverry. While Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated Juncheng Shang. Also at time of writing, Nicolas Jarry has just taken down Jack Draper in three sets as a 45 match day continues in Miami.
