Former Australian tennis player and now broadcaster Todd
Andrew Woodbridge teased fellow countryman
Alex de Minaur about the size of the
ring his girlfriend
Katie Boulter wore during the
Australian Open.
The two have been dating for quite a while and there have been
rumours that they are about to get engaged in the near future.
During De Minaur’s fourth-round clash in the first Grand
Slam of the year, Woodbridge spotted his girlfriend Boulter wearing a ring and
teased that Australian tennis star that since he is doing well on the
court, he should be giving a better ring to his partner.
"I'll tell you what - Alex has been playing incredible
tennis, he's top-10 in the world. I went in close to have a look at the ring
and I said 'you know what? You can do better than that, Alex'," said Woodbridge.
He further went on to suggest that De Minaur would buy a
four or five carat ring if the couple are looking to get engaged anytime soon. "An
engagement ring? Surely we're looking at four or five carats, not a couple of
chips,” he said.
De Minaur’s journey in the competition came to an end as he
lost to Russia’s Andrey Rublev in a five-set thrilling contest in the round of
16 with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0.
On the other hand, Boulter’s journey in the singles category
came to an end earlier as she lost in the second round to China’s Qinwen Zheng
in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
