Elina Svitolina and Iga Swiatek found themselves in the Roland Garros round 4 following strong victories on Friday.
Elina Svitolina kicked off the WTA play for Friday with a match against Alexandrova and she won in straight sets in around 100 minutes of play. The first set was a good one for both players as neither struggled much while serving. The games kept pilling up with both of them holding their serve not even facing breakpoints. The crucial moment came late in the set when Alexandrova faced her first beak point which Svitolina seized winning the set 6-4.
The start of the 2nd set was a bit crazier as they traded games early. Svitolina lost her serve in the first game but she also broke Alexandrova in the next to make it 1-1. After that, we saw a copy of the 1st set where both players held their serve. Late in the set Svitolina once again struck first breaking Alexandrova which would be enough for a 6-4 7-5 victory.
Iga Swiatek will be joining Svitolina in the 4th round of Roland Garros following a victory against Eugenie Bouchard. The Canadian tried her best today but the Polish player was simply too good for her. The match lasted only 75 minutes and it was all Swiatek needed for a 6-3 6-2 victory. Bouchard allowed her to play her aggressive game which costed the Canadian dearly as she won only 3 of 22 2nd service points.
Swiatek tallied 30 winners and 15 unforced errors compared to only 8 winners and 18 unforced errors by Bouchard. The young Polish player is looking very impressive so far at the Roland Garros and it will be interesting to see how far she can go.
