Fab Fritz ✌️ @Taylor_Fritz97 blasts past Nick Kyrgios 6-3 6-2 to reach the last 16 at #CincyTennis for the first time!
Taylor Fritz made a lot of Americans happy with his Western & Southern Open performance against Nick Kyrgios beating him 6-3 6-2.
The American plays really strong tennis on native soil and he proved it many times over. The last time was in March when he won the Indian Wells Masters against Nadal despite injuring his ankle in the warm-ups. Fritz continued playing strong tennis throughout the year and the current US number one is doing the same in Cincinnati.
He got to play Nick Kyrgios who showed yesterday that fatigued has caught up with him. The Australian played a lot of tennis in recent weeks, probably too much and he finally ran out of steam. Davidovich Fokina was not consistent enough to take advantage of that but Fritz was. The match itself followed a very quick pace.
Neither wasted any time and Kyrgios struggled to return well exerting very little pressure on Fritz. The American was better in that department and midway through the first set, he got a break chance. Knowing how valuable those are, Fritz converted it and ran away with the set 6-3. Kyrgios risked too much in the 2nd set as his serve dipped considerably.
For a player whose game is built around the serve, it was something he was not prepared to deal with and the 2-6 score proves it. A great win for Fritz who took his chance against a tired Kyrgios.
