The rough afternoon continues for the home heroes at the 2024
Miami Open as
Taylor Fritz is out as Thiago Seyboth Wild produced one of his best ever displays to dump out the American No.1 6-3, 6-4.
Seyboth Wild produced a stunning serving performance to deny the 12th seed inside Hard Rock Stadium. Only dropping nine points on serve, he won it in just over an hour to reach the third round for the first time in Miami.
Seyboth Wild finished the match with an astonishing 96% of points behind his first serve (23/24) and he snapped Fritz's 10-match winning streak in the opening round matches on home soil which dates back to 2023. He will now face Nicolas Jarry or Jack Draper in the next round with his best run since a home run at the Rio Open earlier this season.
It came shortly after Tommy Paul pulled up during his match against Martin Damm. Jr with a rolled ankle as he was forced to retire a set up, a week after he did similar at Indian Wells. Christopher O'Connell also accounted for Frances Tiafoe with a 7-5, 7-6 win just before that with the Aussie set to face off against Martin Damm. Jr who is the American who wins through from this exodus. Albeit in horrific circumstances as Paul's injury could yet be serious. But while Jessica Pegula won through earlier on the WTA side, the men aren't faring as good so far in their home tournament.
