Taylor Fritz continues to show himself as the leading light in American men's tennis with another milestone reached on Saturday at the Madrid Open.
Fritz became the first US man to reach a Grand Slam final since 2009 at the US Open last year and then became the first US man to reach the top four since 2007.
On Sunday, he became the first American man born in the 1990's to record 300 career wins. Albeit it was a win on paper as opposed to sealed on the court as Benjamin Bonzi decided to retired after losing the second set.
The Frenchman won the first 6-4 and Fritz responded 7-5 when he suddenly retired handing him the victory. He isn't just the first US man born in 1990 or later to reach 300. You have to go back even further as he is the fifth US man born in 1980 or later to do it.
The outstanding name on that list is Andy Roddick, as per Tennis.com, he sits on 612 ahead of John Isner, Sam Querrey and Mardy Fish. The latter will soon be overtaken by Fritz with Fish on 302.
612: Andy Roddick [born in 1982]
489: John Isner [born in 1985]
385: Sam Querrey [born in 1987]
302: Mardy Fish [born in 1981]
300: Taylor Fritz [born in 1997]
He is also just the fourth man born in 1997 or later from anywhere to reach 300 with his contemporaries being Alexander Zverev. He sits on 484, while Stefanos Tsitsipas is on 361.
Andrey Rublev is back on 346 and Casper Ruud who is on 275, Alex de Minaur 272 and Jannik Sinner 270 have plenty of time on their side to be the next with Sinner in particular being born in 2001 so he is on the right side of the age demographic.
