Taylor Fritz got his first trophy of the year as the American defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 6-0 5-7 6-2 to win the 2023 Delray Beach Open.
Fritz has been playing well all week long and we all know how much Americans love playing at home. He's also quite familiar with the facilities in Delray Beach and it showed. Motivation is never a problem for Fritz and he showed in the opening set which he won 6-0 in 24 minutes. He was hitting winners left and right and Kecmanovic could not do anything.
The second set was far more competitive as the Serbian was able to keep things close. Fritz applied heavy pressure with his groundstrokes in every game and he even had break points and then a match point but was too passive on all of them. It backfired badly because Kecmanovic was able to play himself into a great rhythm and actually turn it around.
7-5 was the score for the Serbian with the final set offering a chance to make this very interesting. Unfortunately, it wasn't because Fritz sobered up and he returned to the way he played. Obviously, it was too much for Kecmanovic and Fritz once again took the lead and this time around there was no mistakes. He finished it off 6-2.
