Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz will have a lot of
responsibility when the
Laver Cup resumes on Sunday. The two-team
mega-event is set to conclude on Sunday, where some of the best players in men’s
tennis are currently taking part to secure the ultimate prize.
Spain’s young tennis sensation Alcaraz, who is already regarded as one of the best men’s tennis players in the singles category in the world, will have a lot of responsibility when the competition resumes on Sunday. The
21-year-old will feature in two out of the four contests on the last day for
Team Europe at a time when his team needs to win at least three to lift the title
for the fifth time.
On Saturday, Team World stunned the star-studded Europe side
after winning three out of four matches. In the singles category, the 2024 US
Open runner-up defeated world number two Germany’s Alexander Zverev in straight
sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5. America’s Frances Tiafoe, for the first time in
his career, managed to defeat Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the singles category
contest as well as he emerged victorious with the score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
In the doubles event, America’s Ben Shelton and Chile’s Alejandro
Tabilo managed to get the better of Norway’s Casper Ruud and Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas
in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2. The only match where Team Europe
came out on top on Saturday featured Alcaraz, who defeated America’s Shelton
with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
On Sunday, the current world number three will face Fritz in
the singles category whereas in the doubles category, he will partner Norway’s
Ruud as they will face the pair of America’s Shelton and Tiafoe. In the other contests
on the last day of the competition, Germany’s Zverev will go up against Tiafoe whereas
Shelton will face Russia’s Medvedev.
