Andy Murray won't play for Team GB in the
Davis Cup Finals but Team Captain Leon Smith is fairly happy with the team saying they are operating on a high level ahead of the competition.
Team Great Britain will kick off their Davis Cup Finals campaign today with a match against their old rivals France and despite not having Andy Murray the team is focused and operating on a very high level. That is according to Captain Leon Smith whose personal choice was to omit Murray from the team. Neither Smith nor Murray spoke about the exclusion so it's unknown whether Murray was even willing to play.
Asked about the team that he selected Smith said:
"Obviously both Andy and Jamie have been a mainstay in the team for a long time because they've been at the top of the game for a very long time. I think what's really pleasing is you look at the group of guys we've got here, they're all at career-high rankings, all operating at a really high level. They deserve to be here."
Smith further added:
"It's a privilege to be able to select this group moving forward. I'm excited to be around them. They've got a lot of years left, as well, which is really important."
