NBA All Star weekend is one of the highlights of the yearly basketball calendar, but what about a tennis all-star game involving the sports' biggest names. Tennis journalist Jon Wertheim seems to think that it is incoming led by a certain Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic has form in organising tournaments albeit infamously back in the days of the Adria Tour during COVID-19 which saw a lot of criticism due to following or not following of rules. But supposedly according to Wertheim, it is very much not a pipe dream. It is very much an idea that has been conceived and venues are being looked at and a logo already designed with it starting as early as 2025.
It is not inconceivable to think of this happening especially given the amount of exhibitions that are played bringing together ATP and WTA stars in mixed doubles and fun competitions which vitally Djokovic is usually a part of so there could be a lot of truth in this.
"Everybody wants a tennis All-Star game right. We have a skills competition, men, women, everything to celebrate our sport. Well, you know what a really good time to do that might be? Right before Indian Wells. Everybody's happy, they come to Southern California," said Wertheim on Served with Andy Roddick.
"And I've heard that Novak has really taken an interest in this. This is not just, 'Hey we should have an All-Star game.' There is a logo somebody showed me, they're looking for venues. This would be in Los Angeles," he added.
"He's always looking for ways to involve players, this is a legacy play but I also this this makes smart business sense. Who wouldn't want to see Coco try to hit targets or have a sprint competition, or who can serve the fastest," Wertheim said."So, this is not just some whimsical idea, he's really running with this. Look for this as early as 2025."
