Microphones picked up
Tommy Paul joking with Frances Tiafoe about getting into Tsitispas' head with 'Daddy jokes' and tennis fans didn't like it.
There has been a fair share of 'trash talking' during the
Laver Cup which is not unusual for sports but you don't see it as much in tennis due to the abundance of microphones on the courts. Still, it happens with players like Nick Kyrgios often talking during points and between changeovers.
One of those moments was picked up by cameras at the Laver Cup during the match between Tiafoe and Tsisipas which Tiafoe won. Tommy Paul was heard telling Tiafoe that he's going to get in Tsitsipas' head with 'daddy jokes' and tennis fans blasted him for it.
Some of the comments were:
"When Team World wins and Tommy Paul lifts the trophy, I hope he remembers all he did all week was sit on a bench."
"This isn't ‘trash talk’. It's flat out bullying. Disgraceful that they'd stoop so low."
"And this is the level of advice we have on team world's bench. Complete lack of respect. Haven't you learnt anything from Roger, Rafa and Novak the past couple of days?"
