Thanasi Kokkinakis and San Wawrinka played over four hours in Paris with the former ending up as the victor 3-6 7-5 6-3 6-7(4) 6-3 advancing at Roland Garros.
This was a very interesting matchup from the start as fans knew they could expect a really good one between the players. They're somewhat on an equal level right now and that's been proved as they went all the way to five sets. The first one saw the players trading games for a while but then Kokkinakis kind of threw away the opening set as he lost his serve at the worst possible times.

Kokkinakis' surge

Despite dropping the first two sets, Kokkinakis came back in strong fashion taking the second set 7-5 despite trailing 2-4. That comeback push by the Australian was very crucial as it gave him the momentum needed to completely turn around the match. It happened in the 3rd set as he took it 6-3 to give himself a 2-1 lead in sets.
He was playing pretty good tennis at that time as the 3rd set saw him play the best tennis he played all day. However drama was incoming.

Wawrinka fighting back

Even with the lead for Kokkinakis the Swiss veteran didn't give up and kept fighting. The 4th set was the longest set in the match taking almost an hour and a half. Wawrinka played a really flawless one applying heavy pressure but Kokkinakis saved multiple break points. Still in the tiebreak, it was the Swiss Express running away with it 7-4.
The final set saw Kokkinakis take an early lead of 2-0 and add on top of that 4-0. Wawrinka pulled back one break but he couldn't really get it done fully as the Australian held firm to finish it off 6-3 in the end. A huge win for Kokkinakis after that Murray 5-setter in Melbourne.
