Britain’s former number one Greg Rusedski has stated that
the scary thing about
Jannik Sinner is his constant improvement. The 23-year-old
is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s
tennis in the singles category along with the likes of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz
and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Former Britain’s number one and 1997 US Open runner-up Rusedski
has recently spoken to The Tennis Channel where he talked in detail about
Sinner. The 51-year-old was of the opinion that the scariest thing about the
reigning world number one is how is constantly improving.
“The most impressive thing for me when I was watching the
Six Kings Slam was how much Sinner has improved,” he said. “Even from New York.
That is a frightening thought. The drop shot was something he didn’t have in
his arsenal whatsoever, the volleys were average. Those two areas are pretty
damn good now and nearly world class. Those guys keep adding dimensions. You
have to think you have to keep getting better, if you don’t, there is only one
direction you are going.”
Sinner is going through a fabulous season where he lifted
the two out of four Grand Slams. The San Candido-born first won the Australian
Open after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller
with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. He then went on to lift the US Open
title after beating America’s Taylor Fritz in the final in straight sets with a
score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Because of his consistent performances, Sinner became
the world number one earlier this year during the French Open when Djokovic was
forced to retire just before the start of the quarterfinal against Norway’s
Casper Ruud because of a knee injury. Sinner’s most recent accomplishment was
winning the Shanghai Masters where he defeated Djokovic in the final in straight
sets with a score of 7-6, 6-3.
