Mats Wilander has compared
Aryna Sabalenka to
Serena Williams after her victory over Karolina Pliskova at the
US Open.
Sabalenka struggled with her tennis for the majority of the year and most of it had to do with her serving woes. It's a big part of her game because she generally serves really well and not having that weapon made it very hard for her to win matches.
She is doing fairly solid at the US Open as she hit 18 aces against Pliskova which left Wilander quite impressed:
“She’s serving great again. The attitude is always there. When she plays well, it’s very difficult to find an opponent that she doesn’t like playing against. It’s really important to win the first set, especially in the women's draw when there are two out of three sets."
He continued his praise by comparing her to Serena Williams:
“I like that she’s willing to come forwards. We know that she plays a lot of doubles, and she’s learnt how to play with a bit of variety. Of course, what’s most important and the most improved is obviously the serve. But I mean, that’s unplayable. That’s Serena Williams stuff that she does sometimes.”
