Holger Rune will not play at the Croatia Open Umag which begins on Monday 22 July with the Dane revealing bad news which likely puts his Olympic Games participation into doubt.

Rune had to retire injured in his Quarter-Final against Arthur Fils this past week at the Hamburg Open with the Frenchman going on to win the title. He defeated Alexander Zverev in the final this past Sunday. But for Rune it was less of an optimistic week with the Dane seemingly heading onto Croatia Open Umag or so he thought.

"Unfortunately the first exams of my wrist is not looking good. Therefore I will not be able to play in Umag this week. I am happy that I had a chance to meet all my fans here and I hope to come back and play some tennis for you as well. Now some more exams tomorrow and we will see if conclusion is the same from everyone . Thanks for your support and thank you to the tournament for doing everything you could to help me," he wrote on social media.

On the eve of the Olympic Games which start in a weeks time, it is bad news with Rune admitting that it is not good signs when it comes to his participation. He is due to head to Paris to play alongside Caroline Wozniacki in doubles as well as of course singles and with scans not looking good on his wrist, it is unlikely now that he will play in a cruel blow for Rune.

He had already gone to Croatia Open Umag expecting to play but the scans on his wrist told a very different story as he had to withdraw after being able to meet fans who were expecting to see him at the tournament which starts on Monday.

Unfortunately the first exams of my wrist is not looking good. Therefore I will not be able to play in Umag this week. I am happy that I had a chance to meet all my fans here and I hope to come back and play some tennis for you as well. Now some more exams tomorrow and we will…
