World number one Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic believes that the
future of men’s tennis is in safe hands.
The 36-year-old is regarded as the greatest player in the
history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won 24 Grand Slams titles
in his career.
Djokovic was recently quoted in a report where he remains
optimistic about the future of men’s tennis, especially in the presence of
someone like Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz.
“I think tennis, definitely the future is looking good with
Carlos leading that field,” he said. “We had some thrilling encounters, this
year particularly with the final at Wimbledon and also Roland Garros and
Cincinnati - that was one of the best three-set matches I’ve ever played.”
The 20-year-old is regarded as the best young talent in men’s tennis currently playing in the circuit.
Alcaraz became the talk of the town after he defeated
Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon earlier this year in a five-set thriller
with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
It was the Serbian tennis star’s only defeat in the Grand
Slam in 2023 as he went on to win the other three major titles.
It was Alcaraz’s second Grand Slam title in his career as
his first was the US Open which he won in 2022 after defeating Norway’s Casper
Ruud in the final with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3.
