Despite losing to
Novak Djokovic in the final of the 2023
ATP Finals,
Jannik Sinner still etched his name in the history books as the Italian's match became the most watched tennis ever in Italy.
Djokovic recorded a 6-3 6-3 victory over the hometown hero at the ATP Finals in Turin, but that did not seem to dampen the spirits of the raucous crowd, who were behind Sinner throughout the history-making encounter.
Millions in Italy tune in to watch Sinner battle the World No.1
More than six million people (on RAI 1 and Sky Sports combined) tuned in on Sunday to witness their favorite son take on Djokovic, making it the most-watched tennis match in Italy. Having defeated the Serbian earlier in the round robin stage, fans were hoping Sinner could repeat his superb performance and capture the title.
However, it was a dominant display from Djokovic that saw the 36-year old cruise to his seventh ATP Finals title, putting him atop the list with one more than Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer.
