Gilles Cervera, coach of
Daniil Medvedev, was full of praise for
Carlos Alcaraz in a recent interview, and referred to the World No.1 as the 'Mike Tyson of tennis.'
Cervera was courtside during Alcaraz's victory over Medvedev at the 2023 Indian Wells final, and was stunned at the ease with which the reigning US Open champion took apart his protégé.
"He is the Tyson of tennis because of how he is able to hit those forehands with the racket," said Cervera. "There were blows that displaced Daniil 10 meters with brutal power and speed."
The French coach heaped praise on the young Alcaraz, but also stated Medvedev would work hard to find flaws in the Spaniard's game.
"He is an incredible player," admitted Cervera. "It leaves rivals with no options. We thought he would make mistakes and it seemed that he could not fail. We will have to start looking for their weak points for the future."
