Emma Raducanu could make herself unable to play for Great Britain at next year's Olympics due to her not representing Great Britain in the Billie Jean King.
It's been almost a year since Raducanu last played for the country in the
Billie Jean King Cup and it's actually important for the
Olympic Games. Besides having to be ranked in the top four of your country you also need to play at least twice for your country between the Olympic Games. Raducanu only played once and she's missing the second one. Next month one of the rare chances she gets to play for GB but she's not going to do it to preserve her body.
It will depend on how the team does and whether they qualify for the Finals but Raducanu might not have many chances to play for the team until the Olympic Games. She reiterated her commitment and desire to play for Great Britain after her exit from the Miami Open. She will need to back it up if she wants to play at the Olympic Games though because it's a requirement.
Raducanu said in Miami:
“Of course I would love to play the Billie Jean King Cup. It's just
this scenario is not the best for my body. I really need to look after
myself and do what's best for me on the match court."
