Former World No.1, Andy Murray has turned his business mind on with the multiple Grand Slam champion canvassing for the ATP to invest in a South American swing in a similar vein to the Middle Eastern swing which is taking place.
Murray recently competed at the Qatar Open falling to Jakub Mensik who despite Karen Khachanov sealing the title took most of the plaudits during the week as the 18-year-old truly shone. But with tournaments in Los Cabos and Rio on going this week and Acapulco next week, Murray believes that a more dedicated part of the season should happen for South America.
Many players either snub this part of the season due to Indian Wells or play in Dubai and other tournaments, but Carlos Alcaraz for instance until he got injured planned to play most of the clay court events which Murray says bring a great atmosphere and in reality are part of the fabric of their culture.
"Unpopular opinion. South America should have its own dedicated swing on the tennis tour with its own masters series. The way the fans support the tournaments there is incredible. Amazing atmospheres and tennis is clearly part of their sporting culture. Vamos @atptour," Andy Murray wrote on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
