Tennis star Holger Rune was forced to withdraw from the 2025 Rio Open due to illness, and Danish player has given fans an update on his current condition.
The former World No.4 was on a losing streak prior to the Rio Open, losing consecutive matches in Rotterdam and Buenos Aires. Rune would later withdraw from the Rio Open, citing a lingering illness.
"Looking back I think it was too early to play after my influenza last week,” wrote Rune on Twitter. “My shoulder was not working and the whole body seemed extremely vulnerable.
“I will take the time and get proper rest now. When the body is not there , the brain shuts down and I am just very sorry I couldn’t deliver what I wanted on court today. Sorry Argentina."
Rune released this statement soon after his withdrawal was announced. However, the 21-year old appears to have made a full recovery, as he released another statement giving fans an update on his health status.
"First day since Rotterdam I wake up and my body feels almost normal again," wrote Rune. "Happy I took the time to rest and recover . Now practice before @AbiertoTelcel."
The World No.12 is scheduled to compete at the upcoming Mexican Open, where he reached the semifinals in his last two appearances in 2023 and 2024.
