Rennae
Stubbs shared her thoughts on
Novak Djokovic's incredible record of reaching 36
Grand Slam finals.
The former
coach of Serena Williams praised the Serbian player for his outstanding
performance in yet another Grand Slam, where he secured his 24th title,
distancing himself further from Rafael Nadal (22 titles) on the list of Grand
Slam champions.
In addition
to his 24 Grand Slam titles achieved between 2008 and 2023, Djokovic has made
it to 12 Grand Slam finals. It's remarkable that he has played in 36 finals,
winning 66% of them.
Furthermore,
it's worth considering that 'Nole' has appeared in the main draw of Grand Slam
tournaments 72 times, which means he has reached the final in 50% of the majors
he has participated in.
Rennae
Stubbs discussed Djokovic's record and his outstanding performance at the 2023
US Open during a conversation with Catlin Thompson on her podcast:
"I
think physically that was probably as taxing as you get. Beating Alcaraz in a
best of five sets and that match was absolutely phenomenal. Medvedev’s tennis
in that match was unreal,” said Stubbs about the final against Medvedev.
"You
know when Alcaraz comes in and against a lot of these guys, they’re just not
able to pass him like Medvedev is… he’s 20 feet behind the baseline, can still
find the angle. I think he got the better of Alcaraz [because he was] just
better under pressure from Alcaraz coming in," she added.
"Whereas
Novak’s patience level is off the charts. He just waits and waits and waits and
doesn’t panic, doesn’t get too overrode by the situation clearly because he's
36th… I think he’s [played] 36 Grand Slam finals. I mean that’s f*cking insane.
There are players who have had great careers and have not played in 36 Grand
Slams," Stubbs concluded.
