The defeat of
Daniil Medvedev to Seyboth Wild at Roland Garros was a huge thing according to
Mats Wilander proving that the depth in men's tennis is huge.
Daniil Medvedev didn't play a very good match and
Thiago Seyboth Wild played a really good match which is the combination that allowed the latter to dump out the Russian from the event. According to Mats Wilander, there was a huge significance to men's tennis besides that as he explained that it proves the depth of men's tennis is huge:
"The fact that Medvedev lost to a player who has never played here before,
but who has played 46 matches this year, including 36 on the Challenger
circuit, means that the depth of men's tennis is incredible . Anyone
can go through. With Daniil Medvedev out, there are plenty of players
who can reach the semi-finals and final in the bottom-half. On the other hand, we can expect Djokovic and Alcaraz to reach the semifinals."
Medvedev himself wasn't too dejected with the loss being happy with the clay season ending. The Russian credited his opponent for the win but we won't see him later in the event. As Wilander suggested only a handful of players are really expected to make deep runs consistently and ight now that list might only include Alcaraz and Medvedev.
