Novak Djokovic failed to will Serbia into the
Davis Cup Finals final and after the match, he briefly recapped the competition, his season, and his future plans.
The 2021 Davis Cup was the final event of Novak Djokovic's 2021 season. It's been a very good one and after the match the Serbian, while disappointed, was still realistic in his assessment. He said:
"The season finished today and I have no regrets. I always enjoy representing the country and for me, it's about pride. Unfortunately, we did not make it this time. It's a tough format, you have to win almost every match. It's sports, what can you. I never regret anything, I try to learn from it and move on."
Djokovic faced a mammoth challenge in having to beat the best doubles pairing in the world for a place in the final. Recalling that Djokovic said:
"We stepped out believing we can win. We were not the favorites because they are so good. You can't win the Davis Cup without strong doubles so maybe we should play more doubles in the future. We need to have more doubles players. We tried and we failed, that's it."
Djokovic was also asked about his 2021 season especially regarding the Australian Open with his status for the event unknown. He said:
"I will use these next days to rest, recover and forget about tennis. I know you all want to know answers about my next season but you will know when it's time. I can't give out any dates. Australia is coming soon and you will know."
