The decision of the WTA to suspend all tennis events in China until the
Peng Shuai gets resolved created a lot of buzz in the tennis community.
There is a very good reason for that as the situation caught many tennis players off guard that demanded action. The WTA took a harsh stance from the get-go and it double down on it by pulling all events from the country until the situation gets resolved. The WTA is not happy with the cooperation of China in proving that Peng's safety is fully guaranteed.
The ATP did not do the same explaining that they will continue to monitor the situation which was heavily criticized by several players. Flavia Pennetta was the latest player to speak out on the matter saying:
"If WTA, usually prudent, took such a decision against China, probably it knows something we don't. We must support Peng, and every champion of every sport should fight for her and use
#WhereIsPengShuai"
The WTA disclosed information that chief Steve Simon communicated with Peng via. e-mail but Simon noted that he did not trust the authenticity of those e-mails. Calls for a video conference were shut down by the Chinese government. Pennetta might have a fair point in her assesment but it remaisn to be seen how the situaton gets handled in the near future.
