Current British no. 1, Dan Evans will take on Andy Murray in the first semifinal match of the Battle of the Brits.
Dan Evans and Andy Murray are set for a great spectacle on Saturday afternoon. Current British number 1, Dan Evans will meet former world number 1, Andy Murray in the first semifinal match of the
Battle of the Brits.
Both showed high-quality tennis in the group stage when Evans lost only 1 set while he remained undefeated. On the other hand, Murray lost only 1 set more but
lost a match to Kyle Edmund.
Despite the long history of both on the ATP Tour, they didn't meet on the court. The Battle of the Brits is the first opportunity for Evans and Murray but also
Kyle Edmund or
Cameron Norrie to show who is the British no. 1.
After the match against James Ward, Andy Murray spoke about his health as he doesn't want to get injured again. The Scot wasn't really in competitive rhythm since 2017. The 2020 season can be a great come back season for him as he has more time to train during the Tour suspension. In an
interview after the match, he said:
"When I was playing Davis Cup in November, it was. My hip was sore when I moved. I’m feeling it a little just now but that was the best I’ve moved in the three matches. I’m delighted that I’ve got a rest day tomorrow because I’m very, very tired," admitted Murray.
Evans said: "There’s always more to beating Andy than tennis. You always think how good he was. It’s a difficult match but I’ll have to deal with that."
