Thiem suffers setback in comeback in return to action, still aims for Australian Open

Dominic Thiem won't play at the ATP Cup or in Sydney ahead of the Australian Open and will head home from Austria after not competing in Abu Dhabi on his potential return to action at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.

Thiem said in a statement released on social media that he caught a cold and was unable to practice so isn't in the physical condition to compete.

He is still aiming to play at the Grand Slam in late January but a future decision will come about his participation by the end of the year.
