Three-time Grand Slam winner Switzerland’s veteran tennis star Stan Wawrinka and the 2020 US Open winner Dominic Thiem can face off in a mouthwatering second-round tie of the Astana Open.
The competition is set to begin from September 27 to October 03 in the capital city of Kazakhstan.
The draws for the tournament have been made and one potential mouthwatering tie can take place in the round of 16.
The former world number three Wawrinka will kickstart his campaign with an opening-round fixture against America’s Marcos Giron.
On the other hand, Thiem, who has recently returned to full fitness after struggling with a number of injuries in the past, will face off Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas in the round of 32 clash on Wednesday.
Both players have faced off four times in professional tennis where the 38-year-old has an edge with three wins compared to Thiem's one victory.
Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor is the top-seeded player in the tournament. He is set to face off the winner of the match between Roberto Carballes Baena and the qualifying player in the second round.
Home favourite Alexander Bublik has already booked his place in the next round of the tournament. He will face the winner of the match between Marton Fucsovics and Sebastian Ofner in the round of 16.
