The 2023 edition of the China Open is set to begin in less than a week and players are getting ready to battle for the all-important ATP 500 title.
The tournament has been taking place after a gap of three years. Between 2020 to 2022, the China Open was not organised because of COVID-19.
In the tournament’s previous edition, it was Austria’s Dominic Thiem who managed to win the title after beating Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
This year, Spain’s young tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz and the world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev are the two top-seeded players in the competition.
Alcaraz became the talk of the town after winning Wimbledon earlier this year with a win over Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in a five-set thrilling finale with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
On the other hand, Medvedev is coming fresh after suffering a defeat in the final of the recently concluded US Open to Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
