Andy Murray made another semi-final on grass after beating Stricker in two sets and after the match, he talked about the state of British tennis which isn't ideal.
A few weeks ago, British former number one Dan Evans had some thoughts on the situation in British tennis. A country that invests a lot in tennis doesn't have quite the results to warrant so many investments. Evans ranted passionately about it Murray now shares his thoughts as the biggest tennis star from the country in recent memory.
Murray talks British tennis
He explained that weeks like this one where it's been great are positive developments:
"I mean, obviously this week's been great. A couple of
weeks ago we were hearing that British tennis wasn't doing well. Things
change a lot on a week-to-week basis. You just want all of the players
to reach their potential and make sure everyone's working hard. Not
everyone is going to win Wimbledon and Grand Slams, things like that,
but you just want to make sure everyone is making the most of this
amazing opportunity to play tennis for a living. This week has obviously
been brilliant."
He added:
"The
women have done extremely well this week and hopefully that continues
through the year but, yeah, it should be a fun weekend for British
tennis fans. It's been rare that we've had so many people at the latter
stages of big events, so enjoy it."
A few weeks ago Evan's rant focused on the LTA getting lucky with Raducanu winning the US Open some time ago but utliamtely the rankings don't lie. There aren't many top players from the country with Norrie and Draper being the only somewhat younger ones. On the women's side it's particularly bleak with no players ranked in the top 50 right now.
