Even at 35 John Isner is a tough player to beat because he is widely regarded as the strongest server on the tour, but Stefanos Tsitsipas dismantled him in just 57 minutes.
It was a very strong performance from the Greek who defeated Isner 6-3 6-2 in only 57 minutes of play. Stefanos Tsitsipas came out focused and strong despite his occasional tendency to enter matches slowly. Tsitsipas came out aggressive and after the match, he said that things worked out well as he did not want to play a tiebreak against Isner:
“I mean things worked out pretty well. I think I had good return games today and that was very important. You don't want to get into tie-breaks with this guy, it can get really dangerous."
Tsitsipas did well to create opportunities on Isner's serve and then to use them. Speaking about that he said:
"Today I just managed to stay composed and concentrated on all moments. I had opportunities, I won actually most of my break point opportunities… which was important. It gave me so much confidence throughout the whole match.”
For Tsitsipas it was key to have a good day returning and his return is something he has focused on a lot recently. It will be key in the next match as well as he is set to face Felix Auger-Aliassime. On that match he said:
“Always, yeah it is very difficult playing against him. I think I'm going to try and approach that match the same way. Every match I get to play here in Acapulco is important. Hopefully, we can have a great day tomorrow as well.”
