Ex-coach of the former world number one Serena Williams, Rennae
Stubbs, believes that Britain’s
Andy Murray should return to tennis in a professional
capacity. The 37-year-old is regarded as one of the greatest British players in
the history of men’s tennis in the singles category after having won multiple
Grand Slam titles.
Murray recently retired from professional tennis after
spending most of his career because of fitness concerns. The Glasgow-born star
retired earlier in his career in 2018 because of a hip injury after the
Australian Open. However, he returned to the court miraculously and continued playing
at the highest levels.
Stubbs, who is the ex-coach of the former world number one
Serena, has recently spoken in her podcast where she stated that Murray should
return to tennis and become a tennis coach. “Andy Murray, he would be great
coaching anyone," she said. “This guy knows tennis like the back of his
hand, he knows emotion. He would be great coaching anyone, female or male,
because he just has a great tennis mind. Also, he was a very emotional player
and I think that he’d be very empathetic to a player’s tough times on the tour.”
Murray retired from tennis earlier this year after taking
part in the Paris Olympics. He first announced that his original plan was to
retire after taking part at Wimbledon in the singles category but it was
disrupted after he suffered a serious back injury during the Queen’s
Championship. After that, he had to undergo surgery and was forced to take part
only in the doubles category with his brother Jamie. Murray was also set to
participate in the mixed doubles category but his partner Emma Raducanu was
forced to withdraw because of a wrist injury. The former world number one then participated
in the doubles category in Paris with Dan Evans, but the pair lost to the
American pair of Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in straight sets in the
quarterfinal with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
