Renowned tennis journalist Jon Wertheim believes that Spain’s
young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz is primed to win at Roland Garros this year.
The 21-year-old is often regarded as one of the most highly-rated players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, along with Italy’s
Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz has struggled with fitness concerns this year, and because of this, he has missed a couple of important events. His last appearance was in the Madrid Open, where he lost in the quarterfinal to Andrey Rublev with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. After the match, Alcaraz revealed that he felt discomfort in his forearm, which stopped him from pushing against a tougher
opponent.
Despite all that, renowned tennis journalist Wertheim was recently quoted in a report stating that Alcaraz is set to win the
French Open this year. "This is where he [Alcaraz] comes to play,” he
said. “Lot of time to make his way into the tournament. I think Novak makes a
deep run but I think we'll get a repeat of that great match last year, but this
time I feel Alcaraz wins his first title at Roland Garros.” If that is to
happen, Alcaraz will have to improve his best record while playing at Roland
Garros. Last year, he lost in the semifinal to Serbia’s Novak Djokovic with a
score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
