Alex de Minaur played in the Queen's semifinal last year and won a trophy on grass last year but yesterday he was downed by former junior Wimbledon champion Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Prior to this match, Fokina held a 1-3 record on grass despite being a junior champion of Wimbledon. Speaking after this match he spoke about how much confidence matters to him and how this match added to it:
"When you play the first match, it's always tough, because the grass is slippery and you have to be physically so strong. When you are winning matches, you have more confidence with yourself and this match against Alex brought me a lot more."
He added:
"To play on grass, you have to be focussed on every point because it can escape, the games, so quickly. And Alex is a very good player here on grass. I had to be [focussed] every point, because I knew I had my chances. I'm so happy for the win."
