Jabeur
Ons Jabeur largely cruised in this match but a late surge from Parks left the Tunisian fighting hard to win it in two 6-2 7-6(8).
Ons Jabeur is either spending too much time with Maria Sakkar or she is adopting a very troublesome trend of complicating matches when there is no need to. The Tunisian is a fairly strong grass player and she showed all of that prowess early on in her match against Parks who was left without many chances. Jabeur saved a bit better and played much better from the baseline than the American.
Breaking her twice allowed Jabeur to finish off the opening set with 6-2 and she continued playing well in the early goings of the 2nd set as well. She was up 3-1 early but allowed her opponent to crawl back into the match by playing some unserious tennis. She did the same at Roland Garros against Linette but unlike in that match, she was able to stop the bleeding.
Falling behind 4-3 after losing 3 games in a row Jabeur was able to shake off the run by winning her service game. From there both were able to hold their serve and it included a huge hold by parks at 5-5 from 15-40 down. Eventually in the tiebreak, Jabeur was up 3-1 and then 6-4 having two serves to close it out. She failed and fell behind 6-7 but managed to survive 10-8 in the end.
Very problematic finsih for her but the win nonetheless.
