"Thought I had no chance of beating Jannik Sinner" - says Draper after the upset

Jannik Sinner is out of the cinch Championships after getting upset by British youngster Jack Draper.

The upset was a shocking one simply because Jannik Sinner is a much-established player, especially on the ATP Tour. While they are both 19 and were born only months apart Sinner had the better career so far. He was cruising in this match as well being up 4-0 and 40-15 but the Brit rallied in sensational fashion. After the match he said:

"I thought I had no chance of beating Jannik today. I got off to a slow start. Once I won a couple of games, I progressed from there."

After rallying from being 0-4 down and winning the opening set 7-6(6) Draper continued playing well in the second. He said:

“I’m just glad I was able to play well against such a great player like Jannik. He’s top 20 in the world, way ahead of me. It’s great to beat him on this court.”

Draper enjoyed considerable support from the home crowd which he acknowledged after the match:

“I want to thank you guys so much for the support, to be honest, it means so much to me. You guys really made me feel at home. I thought I had no chance of beating Jannik today, to be honest, so I didn’t even bother [looking at the draw].”
