Throwback: Roger Federer celebrates 1000th ATP win in Brisbane

On this day in 2015, Roger Federer claimed his 83rd ATP title in Brisbane. Roger prevailed 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 against Milos Raonic in two hours and 13 minutes, celebrating the 1000th ATP victory!

Thus, Roger became the third player in the Open era with 1000 ATP wins after Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl, almost 16 and a half years after the first one in Toulouse 1998, still at 17. Roger didn't play well against John Millman in Brisbane's opening match, prevailing in three sets and raising form after that to reach the title. Raonic gave his best to stay in touch with the great Swiss, taking the second set before losing serve once in the decider to propel Roger through.

Federer needed 30 minutes to take the opener and moved closer to the finish line with an early break in set number two. Milos pulled it back at 1-2 and dominated the tie break to set the decider, where he stayed in touch with Federer until 4-5. The Swiss earned a late break to seal the deal and celebrate the title and a massive milestone, accompanied by Roy Emerson and Rod Laver during the trophy ceremony.

"This is a special moment, obviously," Federer said. "To receive this from you guys – I will never forget this match."
