The 2017 ATP season was one to remember for Denis Shapovalov, as he scored the biggest win of his career with a victory over World No.2 Rafael Nadal at the Rogers Cup.
After defeating 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro in the second round, Shapovalov faced Nadal in his first-ever match against a top 10 player.
In front of a home crowd and playing in the biggest match of his life, the then-18-year old put on a spectacular display of shot-making and precision that belied his teenage years. Although he lost the first set, the Canadian fought back to level the match before prevailing 4-6 6-4 7-6(4) in a thrilling third set tiebreaker.
Shapovalov would eventually lose to Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, but he wrote his name in the history books as the youngest player to ever reach an ATP Masters 1000 semifinal.
