Former World No.1 Venus Williams announced in a Q&A session with her fans that she will be competing at the 2021 Australian Open.
In response to a question from a fan about her participation at next year's event, Williams responded with "Yes, I am playing the Australian Open whenever they have it I am planning on being there.
It’s going to be interesting because they’re going to have to quarantine for 14 days in a row so that’s going to be interesting it’s gonna be a lot of time with my thoughts but all in all, I just hope that it happens."
The seven-time Grand Slam champion competed in several events during the shortened 2020 season, and is ready to return to the courts next year. Williams last reached the final of the Australian Open in 2017, losing to sister Serena Williams.
Although the Australian Open is scheduled for January, it has been revealed by organizers and health officials that the event will likely be postponed till February. Players will be expected to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival, but can practice for up to five hours daily inside the bubble.
