Equipped with a booming serve and devastating forehand, Andy Roddick was arguably one of the greatest American male tennis players to step onto the court.

The 2003 US Open champion would probably have a few more titles to his name, had he not run across a certain Swiss Maestro. It seemed like Federer was the roadblock to Roddick's success, as the American could never get the best of him.
The duo met 24 times on the ATP circuit, with Federer attaining a commanding 21-3 lead. Roddick lost four Grand Slam finals to Federer (Wimbledon 04, 05, 09 and US Open 06), and fell in numerous quarterfinal match-ups along the way.
With his career drawing to a close, the then 29-year old American was slated to face Federer in the third round at the 2012 Miami Open. This was in fact the earliest that both men had faced each other on the ATP Tour, and most fans were expecting another Federer victory. Federer had won their last six encounters dating back to the 2008 Miami Open quarterfinal.
Both men held serve in the first set, with Roddick prevailing in the tiebreak 7-6(5). Federer's response was swift and lethal, as the Swiss cruised to take the second set 6-1.
Perhaps sensing that this could be the last time he faced his exasperating foe, Roddick played his heart out. The American hit four devastating forehand winners on Federer's serve to grab the crucial break at 2-1. He then proceeded to serve out the match and secure his third win over Federer.
This would be their final meeting, as Roddick would retire at the end of the 2012 US Open.
