World no. 81 and the 8th highest-ranked American player, Frances Tiafoe showed that ranking won't matter during the All-American Team Cup. The captain of Team Stars faced world no. 45, Sam Querrey, and he showed performance worth a captain.

After not converting the first breakpoint in the first set, Tiafoe converted his 3rd to get a break and win the first set 6-4 after 45 minutes. In the second set, Tiafoe led already 2-1 and had a break, however, he needed a medical time-out in the 4th game of the set.

Since that moment, Querrey showed dominant play on his service game and also broke Tiafoe's service game once. However, that was not enough for Team Stripes member as he later lost in a tie-break. Tiafoe triumphed in the match 6-4, 7-6(5), and delivered the first point for his team at the All-American Team Cup.
