Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic has once again missed the golden
opportunity of completing the Golden Grand Slam.
The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in
the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24
Grand Slam titles.
There are not many things that Djokovic has not achieved on the
tennis court but one of them is surely the Golden Grand Slam where a player wins
all four major titles in a calendar year and the Olympic gold medal as
well.
However, the world number one once again missed out on the
opportunity of going for the Golden Grand Slam as he crashed out of the
Australian Open 2024 after losing to Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the semifinal
with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
After a recent setback, Djokovic will definitely turn his attention
towards the other objective which would be to win an Olympic gold medal for his
country which surprisingly he has never done in his career.
His best outing in the competition came in the 2008 Summer
Olympics in Beijing China where he defeated America’s James Blake in the Bronze
medal tie in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6.
