Tend to agree with Nick on this, if one player gets the benefit from an event then so should the rest of the tour.
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios qualified for the 2022 ATP Finals in doubles alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis but he was not happy about the situation in singles.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist missed out on 1200 ranking points as this year's grass-court major was held without awarding any points to players. Therefore, his chances of qualifying for the 2022 ATP Finals in singles also decreased and the 27-years-old Australian mentioned it after qualifying in doubles.
He responded to ATP Tour's post on Twitter that announced qualification of the Australian duo, stating: "Shudda been singles as well." He soon found support of many colleagues and former tennis players that also spoke about the issue. One of them was Todd Woodbridge, who stated:
“Tend to agree with Nick on this, if one player gets the benefit from an event then so should the rest of the tour,” Woodbridge tweeted.
Cameron Norrie, who played semifinals at Wimbledon, also mentioned the issue during his press conference at the Paris Masters.
"Novak obviously qualified from Wimbledon so that seems a bit strange," said Norrie. "I don't know if that was the rule before or not, but its seems unfair, I guess for Nick Kyrgios as well. He lost in the final and he gets nothing. I knew that I hadn't had the points all along, but I was still in with pretty decent chance I thought."
